Outreach to Tuberculosis and Leprosy Patients

Activity III:

Visit to the Hostels
To know more about the living condition of the TB and leprosy patients and to interact more with them, the staff took the organization to the different hostels of TB and leprosy patients.

Observation at the hostels includes:

  • There are insufficient bed and mattresses for the patients.
  • Some of the hostels roof were bad and need repairs.
  • The patients were over-crowded in each room due to insufficient accommodation.
  • The kitchen and toilet need to be renovated.
  • It was realized that some of the TB patients are co-infected with HIV/AIDS.

Activity IV:

Interactive session with the patients at the hostel
During the interactive session with the patients, we discovered that some patients have been rejected by their families after their treatment and they are left with the option of living permanently in the hospital.

Orphans and Vulnerable Children
Some patients are with children, some of which are not able to go to school due to lack of resources. Some children also stay back from school to help their parents whose hands and legs have been cut off by the disease and cannot work for themselves. Names of some of the OVC were recorded.
